Accommodation

When you decide to study at Activate Learning, we can also help you find a place to live!

Homestay

A homestay is when you share a house with a family, but you will always have your own bedroom for privacy.

Families can vary from young couples with children, to single parents and elderly couples. All will speak English fluently, so it is one of the best ways for you to improve your English. You will have the opportunity to get involved in everyday life, enjoying British food and culture first hand!

Many students choose half board homestay accommodation as this allows them to have breakfast and dinner at home. A few homestays offer self-catering options.

Most host families are in towns and villages surrounding the centre and all of the local towns have regular bus or train services. Journey time is usually between 20–30 minutes, making travel to college quick and easy.

All of our host families are checked by us and we are careful to ensure that they all meet the standards required by the British Council.

Student residence

Have your own private room with some shared facilities! This is a great opportunity to live with other students of a similar age and make friends with people from a variety of cultural backgrounds.

Student residence offers en-suite rooms in flats of four, five and six bedrooms. Rooms are furnished with a small double bed, desk, wardrobe and en-suite bathroom. The furnished kitchen and living room are shared with the other students in the flat.

Our residential accommodation has good facilities including wifi, room cleaning and laundered bedding, and on-site restaurant/café/bars.

Student residences are often only available for full academic year bookings (outside of the summer period). It is important to book in advance, especially in September/October.

They are only suitable for students over 18 years old who prefer more independent living. They are authorised and licensed.

You can see pictures of a typical student residence and learn more about what is offered on our Merrist Wood College website.
