English Language Summer School

Learn English, make friends and build some special memories in a fun, supportive environment at our city centre campuses.

Our English language summer schools are for students aged 16+

Our unique summer schools are set minutes away from shopping facilities and transport links. Come and enjoy a wide range of facilities such as a gym, cafes, and hair and beauty salons, in a welcoming environment.

What do I gain?

  • You will get the opportunity to improve your English skills, with 15 hours of classes a week, in a class of up to 15 students
  • You will receive an Activate Learning certificate of attendance
  • You will have the opportunity to take part in fun social activities, explore Oxford and make friends

Horse Riding at Merrist Wood College

Merrist Wood College are offering a summer school for young people who have a passion for horses and want to improve both their English and equine management skills. Ride, learn and have fun with this exciting programme, in professional level facilities.

Merrist Wood College is home to a British Horse Society approved equine centre and includes:

  • an indoor equine arena with one of the largest indoor surfaces in the South East, holding regular dressage, show jumping and showing events
  • an outdoor floodlit warm up arena
  • cross-country courses
  • modern, purpose-built yard with stabling for over 40 horses
  • 400 acre campus

In small groups of five you will combine a variety of different riding experiences, including tacking the horses up, walking, trotting, cantering, pole work and outside walks around the 400 acre estate.

In addition, you will also be able to take part in sessions including:

  • Forest School
  • Creative Arts
  • Team Building activities
  • Animal Encounters Tour
  • Farm Tour
  • Soft Archery and Archery Tag

Rowing with City of Oxford Boat Club and City of Oxford College

City of Oxford College and City of Oxford Boat Club are offering a summer school for young people who want to improve both their English and rowing skills.

This innovative training programme will combine exciting rowing activities with engaging English language learning. Language classes will be in small groups and rowing-themed to help develop communication skills through lively and engaging language activities.

Rowing will take place at the City of Oxford Rowing Club, one of Oxford's largest and most successful rowing clubs, situated on a stretch of the River Thames known as the Isis, by Donnington Bridge in Oxford.

  • You will get the opportunity to improve your English skills, with 15 hours of rowing-themed English classes a week, in a class of up to 12 students
  • You will train with qualified rowing coaches at a professional training club
  • You will receive a college certificate of attendance
  • You will have the opportunity to take part in fun social activities, explore Oxford and make friends.

Rugby with Wasps Rugby and City of Oxford College

City of Oxford College and Wasps Rugby are offering a summer school for young people who want to improve both their English and rugby playing skills. Play, learn and have fun with this exciting programme, in professional level facilities.

This innovative training programme will combine exciting rugby activities with engaging English language learning. Our multi-ability rugby programme will focus on developing techniques and match-awareness through intensive training sessions and matches with similar ability teams.

Training and games will take place at Harcourt Hill, on the Oxford Brookes University campus. Language classes will be in small groups and rugby-themed to help develop communication skills through lively and engaging language activities.
